Ocean Next plans to launch several new sustainable seafood products in the Nordics leveraging new technology
Following a successful exploration phase leveraging technology to reduce food waste developed by the Finnish foodtech company Superground, Ocean Collective through its subsidiaries Ocean Next and Korshags progress to launch across the Nordics. The goal is to accelerate new sustainable production methods and launch several new products.
The newly formed company Ocean Next will lead commercialization across the Nordics in partnerships with retailers, industrial food companies, and other Ocean Collection entities. Production will be based in Falkenberg and leverage the strong heritage of Korshags Food AB who has a long and proud history of being at the forefront of premium quality, craftmanship, innovation, and sustainability within blue food. A prioritized area for Korshags is to accelerate its food production to become fully regenerative within a few years.
– The vision of Ocean Collective and our group of companies is to change the perception of blue food amongst consumers, whilst never compromising on our core believes of healthy oceans, and consumer taste and appeal, says Jörgen Bergqvist Group CEO Ocean Collective and Executive Chairman of Korshags Food AB and Ocean Next AB.
– During the past year since we first entered into a partnership with Superground we have explored the market and learned where the most promising opportunities are for using this pioneering novel method in food processing technology that refines undervalued bones and hard tissues from fish turning it into sustainable, tasty and profitable products. We are confident that there are several attractive opportunities especially in composed products like fish nuggets, fish burgers, and fish balls that either significantly reduces the costs of the products or increase share of seafood, continues Jörgen Bergqvist.
– We are very excited to see the positive development of our partnership between Superground and Ocean Collective and this next step will enable us to scale our business model and begin to explore new regions also outside the Nordics. In Ocean Collective we have found a like-minded mission driven, ambitious, yet entrepreneurial partner and we look forward to making impact together, says Jaakko Kaminen Chief Executive Officer for Superground.
